This is the third or fourth time Curtis and Vince did work for me. They are honest, hard working and true craftsmen. I don't even need an estimate anymore. I know the job will be done right and at a fair price. I highly recommend them!

My wood windows had rot and carpenter bee damage on the sills, trim, and fascia below. With the building boom, it would be hard to find someone with time in their schedule. After a bit of research, I discovered several excellent recommendations for Curtis posted on Nextdoor. He too was heavily booked, but he provided a reasonable and detailed estimate just before Halloween and booked the project for mid-December.

The week before Christmas I had beautiful repairs around two banks of windows and two doors! Curtis and Vince worked together removing all the tall glass storm windows in order to determine and remove the damaged wood, replace with poly or HardiePlank as appropriate, and paint to match the existing trim. Then they cleaned and replaced the large storm windows. Through all of this they maintained a clean workspace and were in constant communication with me as we discovered additional areas of rot to address. Excellent repairs that look as good as new and will probably outlast the house!

I would recommend McGhee's Carpentry for any such work, especially if it requires teamwork, creativity and excellent craftsmanship to accomplish. Thank you, Curtis and Vince for taking so much care in what you do.

Curtis McGhee repaired rotten siding on the shed dormer of my older home. Curtis and his colleague handled the job promptly and efficiently. I am so glad Curtis remedied some wood rot by determining the origins of a leak and replacing fascia board with a polyurethane board that will not rot (Curtis' work is so deliberate, he was able to keep the existing shingles). He also replaced some deck boards and rebuilt fence gates-- I never liked the direction one gate opened, and others who had looked at it said it couldn't be changed (against the slope of the ground). Curtis came up with a creative solution (no more of me having to put a band-aid fix on it that will need attention yet again in a few weeks!) Curtis and Vince are great, and the only evidence they have been here is their great work. In other words, they clean up noticeably better than anybody else I can think of that has done work at my house. I highly recommend Curtis to anyone that needs carpentry-type work done -- he'll show up when he says he will and get the job done with such quality you don't need to give it a second thought. Curtis came out to address a rot issue on my porch a few months back. I couldn’t get a straight answer from a few other handymen and one basically told me to spray foam it and paint over… nope. I called Curtis for an estimate to repair a poor job another carpenter had done for some wood rot around the back of my house. I wanted to go with McGhee’s first, but my husband chose someone else. No one would know they were there, other than the great job they did on the repair! I can echo all the things said in this reference section. Curtis and Cheryl helped me through kind of a white-knuckled closing experience in February where there were three different inspection reports to deal with and buyers that were very specific about some things and maddeningly refused to provide input about others. They required the estimate to be prepared a certain way and couldn’t make up their minds about some of the repairs until the last minute. Curtis and Cheryl were extremely patient in dealing with this. I couldn’t praise the quality of Curtis’s work enough. He specializes in siding replacement and managed to replace a lot of masonite siding without tearing up the siding left behind as others I have hired have done. There were a couple of areas where there was more damage than expected to be replaced, and he was able to find simple solutions to what could have become very complex problems. His actual repair work came in under estimate and was actually cheaper than the unlicensed home handymen I have used before. His work covered everything from flooring replacement under the house to roofing work and was uniformly high quality.

I was very pleased with every aspect of the repair work and the estimating process required because this home was under contract to new buyers.

I called Curtis when I noticed some of my 12-year old wooden siding was starting to rot. We arranged a time during the day so I could show him the areas of concern. He arrived promptly, told me where there were problems and where there weren’t. Within 48 hours I had a written estimate to replace siding and trim on a large bay window, a chimney box, and 2 dormer windows. He also included his hourly charge to work on any rot we suspected on the window sills.

Curtis started the work when promised and replaced the rotten siding with Hardi board which will last forever. He finished in a few days and cleaned up completely when he finished. This weekend I started to paint the new siding. I really noticed the attention to detail that Curtis puts into his work. There were no crooked cuts or seams and everything was caulked perfectly. I have never worked with a contractor that I didn’t have to call back to fix something after they left the job.
